11/4/08 05:57 pm - End of an Era

Well today marks the end of Dubyas reign. It cannot end too soon, whilst neither candidate strikes me as being amazing, for the american public to vote in Bush once was folly, the second time was a mix of idiocy and lunacy. It wouldn't surprise me if the world breathed a sigh of relief when he officially leaves office.

7/6/08 10:41 pm - Another city goes by in the night....

In a rare post I thought I would fill you all in about Iron Maiden at twickenham

Lauren Harris was first up and included a cover of Gun's Steal Your Fire in her set, but was a bit average.

Within Temptatation got a great reception from the crowd, played a decent set but maybe slightly too heavy on the recent album.

Avenged Sevenfold can actually play songs and the harmony guitars were very good, but maybe I would have switched them with Within Temptation.

They were the starters, the main course was as follows:

I think it was Transylvania over the video screens showing a video sequence of the band on tour. This faded out into the churchill speech, which obviously led into Aces High. Two Minutes to Midnight was followed up by Revelations and the Trooper (cue Bruce in red army jacket and lots of flag waving). A reappearance of Wasted Years, the standard Number of the Beast (with a horned goat/devil puppet), Run to The Hills, and then two of my personal highlights; The Rime of the Ancient Mariner and Powerslave (Bruce in Egyptian Mask). Both of those are epics (dry ice aplenty to represnt fog in the former) and to up nearly 20 minutes between them. Heaven Can Wait and Can I play with Madness gave the crowd more singoing practice, Fear of the Dark and then the first appearance of Eddie during Iron Maiden. That was it for the first part of the set.

Encores of a rare appearance of Moonchild and the second appearance of Eddie as a 15ft high cyborg from the Somewhere in Time album cover. The clairvoyant followed this and the set ended with Hallowed Be Thy Name.

So a great set, great atmosphere, great lighting and production, Bruce and the boys were on top form, Adrian's backing vocals adds suprisingly alot, whilst Steve should perhaps stick to bass playing only....

I think this was probably better than the first download they played and that was amazing.

Points of note:

I am glad Adrian is using Jacksons again rather than towing the Iron Maiden "fender" line (although I believe Fender own Jackson now anyway so that's probably why he gets away with it). Still not a patch on the Gold top les paul or the Lado Earths of Live After Death.

The crowd were in great voice, and despite the echoey sound rose the rafters.

3/4/08 09:49 pm - Car for sale

I doubt anyone is interested in a bmw or a scenic, but my parents are selling a 1992 Ford Fiesta 1.4 Flight. It has some MOT and is taxed. Has central locking and electric windows & alloys. It is light blue metallic with blue/grey interior. It is the 5 door model with a sunroof, approx 60,000 miles, condition is ok.

They want around £250 for it, anyone interested?

12/11/07 01:35 pm - URGH

Within an hour of coming home from work I was sooo ill last night. I have never been so sick from something non alcohol related.

I have today off work.

Carina and leif are also ill, as are carinas parents - So avoid Bilborough if you want to stay well!

12/6/07 07:21 pm

What a fucking joke. The FIA have completely lost the plot. Renault are more guilty than Mclaren, with much more evidence against them, yet they get off scott free.

11/6/07 09:54 pm - 8-0

That was a good match. About bloody time.

9/13/07 09:12 pm - Ferrari International Assistance

Well the FIA have done it again coming down firmly on the side of Ferrari. Anyone could believe Max Moseley has a agenda against Ron Dennis and McClaren, (Which he blatently has.)

The only reason the drivers have been let off is so Bernie doesn't lose his tv audience and potential first coloured world champion.

The verdict is complete hypocrisy, Ferrari have done allsorts in the past including having illegal cars, yet they have got away with it.

As for the fine it is clearly designed to ensure only Ferrari can win the championship next year.

I'm sure McClaren will appeal as there are allegedly 4 other teams who have done the same if not worse this year and not got punished at all.

I sure Max Moseley will enjoy his complimentary Ferrari when it's delivered on monday.

Here it is, metallic red 1992 BMW 325i SE for sale, has tax till end of month and MOT till september.

It's reliable, taken me to work in Derby everyday for the past 6 months. I don't really want to sell, but needs must.

Although saying that I challenge people to find out how much it would cost them to insure it, or even if they can get insurance....

7/18/07 11:11 pm - Cars and Guitars for sale

I currently have a metallic red BMW 325i SE for sale, very quick car (will do 140+mph if you are brave or daring enough!) Its the best handling and driving car i've ever owned, it makes a wicked noise and will blow most cars this side of a porsche off the road. Its also ideal if you want to go drift racing! Looking for around £950 for it.

Also will have a Washburn MG44 superstrat for sale in natural finish. Kent armstrong bridge humbucker and hotrail at neck with a seymour duncan in the middle. 24 fret lightning fast neck with floyd rose. Want 220ish for that one. Just waiting for guitarist in my band to bring it back to practice!

When I've finished the electrics off - they were a mess! I will have a cherry sunburst Gibson les paul replica for sale. Bolt on neck, but amazing flamed maple body. Looks better than my real one but doesnt play as good. Want 180 for that but may take offers.

More info and pics to follow when I get my ass in gear!

6/23/07 06:42 pm - When Nick had hair and Spike didn't drink.....

Trawling through images, I came across this forgotten gem. I think it involved Kid Rock and some lubrication.

6/21/07 10:36 pm - Because it would be wasted buried in Nick's LJ!

Following on from Nick's trouser escapades here's a illustrative pic.

Will put it up on rocksoc for the wider audience I think ;)

6/9/07 10:34 pm - 1 week and 2 days

So Leif is one week and 2 days old. He sleeps, he feeds, he cries in the middle of the night and we're both suffering from lack of sleep.

The cats are jealous, but Carina is happy because she's been able to eat chicken satay, runny boiled eggs and had wine.

Ange and Matt came round last night. I think both got quite broody.

Watched Hot Fuzz last week, that was a classic film. Also saw The Matador, Pierce Brosnan is very good as the hitman with issues; well worth seeing if you fancy a laugh and a non blockbuster type flick.

6/1/07 09:37 am - So Tired but happy

Carina and I have a baby boy, born yesterday at 17:12 7lbs. More later.....

4/28/07 11:10 am

1/28/07 10:15 pm

So got through the court system. The fine has been canceled and the DVLA have taken my name off owning that BMW. The DVLA are still cretins.

I have bought a nice metallic red 325i, the 192bhp version which is claimed it will do 145mph, may have to take it to Deutschland to try that out.

So back to the cretins. The V5 was signed and sent off by the previous owner with my details, as per the law.

I get a letter back from DVLA saying they can't send me a new V5 because the taxation class has changed. Slightly odd, but also inconvenient as they say I need to re-tax the car and then apply for a new V5 at a local office. This Conveniently forgetting you need the V5 to get your car taxed, a DVLA induced vicious circle......

I ring them up to point this out, after a few minutes trying to get them to understand, the bloke tells me a V5 actually has been issued and he can't understand why I got the letter.

The wiring is going pretty well. Finished upstairs lights including putting a new light and switch in the loft and new cable runs in.

I think its a good job the wiring is coming out. The circuits and cables are a mess and the wiring is as old as the house.

1/9/07 09:58 pm - The DVLA are Inept Cretins

So I part exchanged my BMW for a Passat December 31st 2005.

I sent of the notification of sale to Trader form off to the DVLA as required, and passed the V5 to the dealer, signed and filled in as required.

All well and good until 21st December 2006. I get a letter from Nottingham Court service saying I have failed to turn up to court, If I don't pay £45 the Baliffs are coming round within 7 days. It also doesn't say why.

I ring them up and find out that the BMW got a parking ticket in Leicester 3 months after I sold it to trader.

Not Happy.

Now I have to go to court to prove it wasn't me, and swear under oath in order to avoid the fine.

I sent a letter to the DVLA on 22nd December. That also has got lost in the DVLA (I got that one registered so someone has signed for it there!)

I sent a fax through yesterday after calling repeatedly, and that was lost till this morning.

My advice is do not trust the DVLA. They will fuck up. They are happy taking money off you, creating fines, but admitting to their ineptness no way.

Hopefully I won't have to pay the fine (as it was nothing to do with me, and I was also at work in Derby when the alleged offence was said to have been committed).

12/23/06 09:24 am

Went to see Just the Tonic at the concert hall last night. It was ace.

Off to parents for xmas should be interesting. Much packing to do now.

Think NYE will be at chez Hutton.

Merry xmas everyone.

11/19/06 11:19 pm - It's life Jim but not as we know it......

The Passat has gone. It wasn't with the sadness I felt when the Beemer left. I sold it to a bloke for slightly more than I paid, so that was ok.

So in replacement terms I need something rear drive and nippy.

I've narrowed it down to a Porsche 944 or a 325/328i.

M3's & M5's are too expensive, 628/633/635s are nice motors, but finding a manual without rusted wings seems to be impossible.

It means also the Megane sport is going. Gonna get it through its MOT, then it will be up for sale.

Still waiting for my second interview for promotion at work. I need more money!

In other news, I located the missing bassist, need to speak to him properly but he could return like lazarus, possibly as a guitar player this time.

Potential singer still hasn't managed to turn up or send the demo songs as promised. It's annoying.

Laminate flooring has been done, more decorating required in the kitchen, and some sockets need replacing. Owning a house is not all fun.
